Ezra 10:4 – Take Courage and Do It

Then Shekaniah son of Jehiel, one of the descendants of Elam, said to Ezra, “We have been unfaithful to our God by marrying foreign women from the peoples around us. But in spite of this, there is still hope for Israel.

Now let us make a covenant before our God to send away all these women and their children, in accordance with the counsel of my lord and of those who fear the commands of our God. Let it be done according to the Law.

Rise up; this matter is in your hands. We will support you, so take courage and do it.”

Reflection

In this verse, we witness Ezra receiving empowerment to lead the priests, Levites, and all of Israel in taking an oath to fulfill an inspired suggestion. This act of entering into a covenant with God sets the people on a path toward transformation, to the renewing of your mind” as described in Romans 12:2.

The passage in Ezra is particularly impactful because it highlights moments when God’s people must rise above sin, trials, and tribulations. It serves as a call to action, urging us to take matters into our own hands to ensure that God’s will is executed faithfully and effectively.

Modern Christian Lifestyle

Daily Prayer

Heavenly Father, inspired by the courageous example set forth in Ezra 10:4, we come before You with hearts open to Your guidance. Just as Ezra was encouraged to rise up and take courage, we seek the strength from You.

In the challenges we face, we find solace in the words of Psalm 121:7-8, where You promise to keep us from all harm, watching over our lives both now and forevermore. With this assurance, we move forward, trusting in Your protective embrace.

As we navigate the complexities of life, we reflect on the beautiful imagery in Psalm 85:12-13. Love and faithfulness intertwine, righteousness and peace embrace, and Your faithfulness springs forth. We trust that, as we walk in righteousness, You will indeed give what is good, and our lives will yield a harvest of blessings.

May Your righteousness go before us, preparing the way for Your steps, and may we walk confidently in the path You illuminate. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
